Papagayo Peninsula

The beautiful Papagayo Peninsula is located on the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, northwest of the province of Guanacaste, in the Gulf of Papagayo. It was formed due to volcanic activity and atmospheric conditions. To the north is a larger peninsula, the Santa Elena peninsula, another wild, remote and pristine peninsula which protects the waters of the Papagayo peninsula, making it a preferred sailing destination.

The Papagayo Peninsula is a popular tourist destination. It is home to the Four Seasons Resorts Costa Rica, which includes an Arnold Palmer signature championship golf course. The peninsula also features a complex of luxury homes and properties, including Pexs and Exlusive Resorts, both located on the Peninsula. By government mandate, 70% of the peninsula’s territory must be kept in its natural state to preserve its beauty, which must not be overshadowed by overdevelopment.

Half day trips

We offer private half day sailing charters in the morning or in the afternoon, depending on the wishes of the clients.

Both tours include the same, from open bar, food items, snorkeling, paddle boarding and you also get to visit one of the many secluded beaches in the Papagayo Peninsula.

The morning tour departs by 8 30 am and returns around 12 30, while the sunset tour departs at 2 and returns by 6 PM, so you get to see the sunset.

Full day sailing

The Full Day sailing charter is for those who wish to enjoy a full ocean experience, ranging from 10 am to 6 pm, including a rich and delicious fresh lunch, normally served on or nearby a secluded beach in the Papagayo Peninsula.

Whales, dolphins and more

During the months of August to October, and again from January to February, it is possible that you might encounter humpback whales, which come north of south to the warm waters of Costa Rica.

Besides whales, you might also encounter dolphin species, several of which are quite common to be seen swimming along the catamaran or sailboat.

Sailing Ocotal beach

Ocotal Beach Guanacaste

Ocotal beach is a beautiful and black sanded beach located between El Coco and Matapalo beach.

One of its main characteristics is that it is a very calm beach, with little to no waves and beautiful rocky pinnacles at both ends of the beach.

Several tide pools form during the low tide, ideal for some solo snorkeling, and also swimming is a preferred activity.

There are several hotels and luxury ocean view villas and vacation rental homes in Ocotal, which makes it one of the preferred beach destinations in Guanacaste.

We will pick you up on the beach at the Four Seasons right on the beach. Normally, the best beach for boarding is Playa Blanca or Playa Virador.

Once on board and greeted by our captain and crew, well revied as the best sailing crew in Papagayo and Guanacaste, you will begin the real sailing experience towards the westernmost tip of the Peninsula.

Although our private charters are custom designed, meaning the clients choose their preferred activity, we have a suggested script which includes stopping for a snorkeling session, or using the paddle boards in the best place in the calm waters of the Papagayo Peninsula and the Gulf of Papagayo.

Our main goal is reaching a secluded beach, where we will anchor, and again, our clients will be able to jump in the water, snorkel, paddle board or simply rest on the beach.

Clients can also fish during the way, since we carry fishing rods at the end of the catamaran, ideal for trolling.

Whales and Dolphins

You might very well encounter dolphins and sea turtles during these 8 hours on the water, and from August to Octobre, you might also very well encounter whales, especially humpbacks, which are the most common ones in Costa Rica, although other species such as pilot whales, orcas and falsa orcas have also been seen.

BBQ lunch

The full day sailing also includes a delicious and fresh prepared bbq lunch, served normally on ther beach or on the catamaran, depending on the request.

Upon return, by 6 PM, you will enjoy the magical colors of the traditional Papagayo Peninsula and Guanacaste sunsets, a fantastic way to end the trip while enjoying a last cocktail.

Diving and Sailing Tours in Guanacaste

Catamaran and Sailing charters with Scuba Diving Tours included

In some of our catamarans and sailboats, we have the possibility to carry dive gear. Since we also own a Dive Shop near Papagayo, Guanacaste, and have a knowledgeable scuba diving crew, it has become quite common to combine a private sailing charter with two tank dives, both at the local dive sites or even in the famous Catalina Islands and also the Murcielago Islands.

Equipment on the catamaran

One of our catamarans in particular, which is the one we use for overnight dive tours to Cocos Islands, comes with Tank Racks and Dive platform. Therefore, it is perfect in case some members of the group are PADI or NAUI certified and wish to dive while the other clients maybe snorkel around a rocky pinnacle or a rocky reef more suited for snorkeling.

The immersions have an additional cost, but they are below the regular 2 or 3 tank dives when booked along with the charter.

Best sailing and diving destination combined

One of the famous dive sites is Murcielago Island, which is part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area. While quite far away from the developed coast of Guanacaste, it is a must to book the overnight sailing tour in order to dive there. We also recommend to book 3 tank dives ( 2 OR 3 ) in order to make the most of this fantastic dive destination. The Murcielago Islands are world famous for a good visibility, absolutely unspoiled environment, and large schools of big fish, including large Manta Rays, large Bull Sharks in the outer islands and large schools of coral and oceanic fish in general. Fishing has been forbidden near the islands for decades, therefore, a very healthy environment is present.

Other local dive sites can be quite good, and are ideal for divers when they only book a half day sailing charter of the full day sailing charter. Local 2 tank dives can be booked additionally during of after booking our catamaran.

What else can I add to the tour?

All tours usually include snorkeling equipment, almost all also paddle boards, some less kayaks and very few even jet skies.
However, upon request, it is possible to add other toys, such as floating mats, and even in some cases, key skies or wave runners.

The perfect explorer tour if you are staying at a beach hotel but want to see more of the vast coast of beautiful Guanacaste.

The tour includes abundant amenities and services onboard.

Food includes abundant fresh fruit, snacks, like chips and dips, burritos, abundant drinks like beer, liquors, sodas, fruit juices.

The boat is equipped with fresh water showers, bathrooms, inboard salon, abundant and sufficient seating and shaded areas, spacious deck areas.

The trip can be customized, including snorkeling, ocean kayaking, paddle boarding, even scuba diving, if the group wants it, with extra charge.

Sunset Tour

Get ready for a romantic trip onboard one of our beautiful and spacious sailboats or catamarans. Depart after lunch at 1:0 and head out to open ocean. Discover the beauty of colorful fish while snorkeling around rocky pinnacles and reefs. Learn paddle boarding or SUP, go for a sea kayaking trip, or swim, rest or sunbathe near an unspoiled beach. Later at around 5:00, the spectacle of the colorful sunset begins. Watch onboard the boat while enjoying drinks, snacks and fruit as the sun goes down fast, changing from light yellow, to orange to dark red. The full day private tour can leave at around 8 AM. Pick up at the hotel included. If the hotel is located right on the beach, we will pick you up from the beach, it is an ocean view hotel located far off the beach, a ground transfer to the put in is also included. The full day private charter includes lunch, snacks, drinks, sodas, beer, alcoholic, fruits, chips and dips, all the snorkeling gear in various sizes, ocean kayaks or paddle boards ( please specific ). The best advice and the selection of boats is very profesional. I loved the fact that the company runs 4 catamarans, al of them great. The charter was perfect. We booked the afternoon tour because we wanted to see the sunset. After 2 hours of sailing, BLAM, rain, not a heavy rain, but hey, you can't control the weather today. Even so, with everything and rain it was a very fun tour. And as planned, at the end of the tour, it stopped raining and we could see the wonderful colors of these incredible sunsets as we sailed towards the hotel.

Perfect wedding venue. Playa Huevos. Special thanks to Luis, Michael, Randy and Papiio for your charisma, charm, service and service, you guys were great. The local fishermen from El Coco, thank you for the fresh lobserts and traveling far to make our "werd dream " come true. Still laughing about that.... The boat was impecable, timing as sharp and everything was just very well organized. Many thanks from Patsy and myself.

Great day trip, awesome food. The full day trip to Playa Guacascolito was just perfect. Food was superb, fresh fish. Loved the fact that it was really very secluded, we were not used to that but that was an experience beyond what we have ever had before. Just us, nature and service.

Great food, great staff, luxury and confort but still nature and beautiful lonely beaches as the main highlight. I loved this combination, confort and pampering service and ameniies with the feeling of adventure and expeditions. Superb Destinatio Unknown and Zafira and Puar Vida, best catamrans we have sailed with so far in Costa Rica.
