In some of our catamarans and sailboats, we have the possibility to carry dive gear. Since we also own a Dive Shop near Papagayo, Guanacaste, and have a knowledgeable scuba diving crew, it has become quite common to combine a private sailing charter with two tank dives, both at the local dive sites or even in the famous Catalina Islands and also the Murcielago Islands.
Equipment on the catamaran
One of our catamarans in particular, which is the one we use for overnight dive tours to Cocos Islands, comes with Tank Racks and Dive platform. Therefore, it is perfect in case some members of the group are PADI or NAUI certified and wish to dive while the other clients maybe snorkel around a rocky pinnacle or a rocky reef more suited for snorkeling.
The immersions have an additional cost, but they are below the regular 2 or 3 tank dives when booked along with the charter.
Best sailing and diving destination combined
One of the famous dive sites is Murcielago Island, which is part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area. While quite far away from the developed coast of Guanacaste, it is a must to book the overnight sailing tour in order to dive there. We also recommend to book 3 tank dives ( 2 OR 3 ) in order to make the most of this fantastic dive destination. The Murcielago Islands are world famous for a good visibility, absolutely unspoiled environment, and large schools of big fish, including large Manta Rays, large Bull Sharks in the outer islands and large schools of coral and oceanic fish in general. Fishing has been forbidden near the islands for decades, therefore, a very healthy environment is present.
Other local dive sites can be quite good, and are ideal for divers when they only book a half day sailing charter of the full day sailing charter. Local 2 tank dives can be booked additionally during of after booking our catamaran.

What else can I add to the tour?
All tours usually include snorkeling equipment, almost all also paddle boards, some less kayaks and very few even jet skies. However, upon request, it is possible to add other toys, such as floating mats, and even in some cases, key skies or wave runners.

If you want to explore a site with rich underwater life, and appreciate the colorful reef fish, no problem, since part of the tour includes a visit to an islet where snorkeling is done.

Morning sailing tour
The morning tour starts at 8 am from the hotel. Customers are picked up directly from the hotel beach in an inflatable boat and transported to the catamaran or sailboat. Once on board, the tour begins, and first we will sail towards open waters, enjoying the blue sky, the sea, and panoramic views of the coast. The tour includes a strategic stop on a rocky island, or some secret reef, places suitable for snorkeling, one of the preferred activities. The boat has excellent snorkeling equipment. Some boats include SUP and KAYAKS, but it is recommended to indicate this at the time of booking. You will also visit a remote beach, away from the tourist area, where you can swim in the calm and warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. Ocean kayaks, paddle boards are also free of charge ( please advice ). Scuba diving can be included with extra charge.
Pick up transportation from the hotel or condo to the docks and back is also included in the final price. Departure around 8 AM and return around noon.
Our suggested tour departure time is 1:30, with a later afternoon return around 6:00.
The tour includes very good food and drinks onboard, including beer, sodas, water, fruits and juicy, Rum, Vodka, Whiskey and cocktails and snacks, normally dips and chips, but also might be Burritos. Lunch can also be included with an extra charge.
The tour includes snorkeling while anchoring at a secret beach and reef spot, away from the crowds.

Private Full Day
The full day sailing tour departs early in the morning.
Sailing away from the coast at around 8AM, we will first head out to open ocean, while silently sailing along the coast near and around rocky islets, reefs and rocky pinnacles to a secluded beach,
After anchoring, people can enjoy endless snorkeling in these pristine waters, sea kayaking around the coast, or go for some occasional fishing.
Meanwhile, for those staying onboard, comfort is there… spacious seating areas, large salon and table, spacious deck for sunbathing or sightseeing.
Enjoy delicious snacks and food, fresh fruit, drinks, cocktails, a cold beer, bottled water or sodas.
A delicious lunch is also included. Choose from many destinations to visit, from Murcielago Islands, to exotic and untouched beaches.
After finalizing the experience of watching the sunsets from the ocean, we will head back to the hotel.
Riu Place and Riu Guanacaste are perfect hotels for private sailing tour departures, both hotels are located right on the beach for a perfect pick up.
We have a list of boats available, from smaller catamarans to larger ones ( up to 90 passengers ) as well as sailboats.
We offer private tours only, including half days in the morning, half days in the afternoon to watch the sunsets as well as full day private 8 hour trips and even overnight charters.
If staying at Riu, we will pick you up right on the beach. Sample trips include snorkeling, SUP, kayaking, some fishing, great food, drinks and snorkeling.

Secrets Papagayo is conveniently located in the Gulf of Papagayo and the southern part of the Papagayo Peninsula.
It is located in an area with very calm waters and beautiful natural scenery around it, thereby being a great place from where we can pick you up for a private sailing charters of catamaran tour.
Morning Tour
Private sailing Secrets Papagayo
Secrets Papagayo is conveniently located inside Bahia Culebra, Gulf of Papagayo, where the water is calm and the coast is protected from waves and storms.
The morning half day sailing charter will pick you up early in the morning, normally at 8 am.
After leaving the Gulf of Papagayo, hopefully at full speed with powerful winds, we will head to a rocky island or secret islet where we will jump into the water and discover the secrets of the marine wildlife ( colorful fish and marine creatures await ).
The second part of the tour is spending time on a secluded beach, normally we have a selection of several ones.
On the beach, you will have time to enjoy snorkeling, swimming, relaxing, playing on the beach or do stand-up paddling and ocean kayaking ( included in case of some of the boats )
The tour includes drinks, fruit, snacks, chips, snorkeling gear and water. Return to the beach is estimated at 12 .
The Afternoon-Evening Sunset Tour includes everything the morning tour includes. The main difference is the departure and return time.
The sunset sailing tour departs at 2 PM and returns by 6 PM.
The highlight of the tour is the fact that upon returning to the hotel at around 6 PM you will enjoy the amazing sunset from the ocean onboard the vessel while enjoying a delicious drink or cocktail.
The tour likewise includes snorkeling, spending time on a secluded beach somewhere, and in case of some of the boats ( stand up paddle boards and ocean kayaking ).
Full Day Sunset Sailing
If you really wish to go away for the day, and leave the commercial Guanacaste coastline behind, the full day adventure is the best tour for people that wish to really have a view of what the original Guanacaste province coastline offers.
The tour departs at 10 AM, and the crew and boat will pick you up at 10 AM right in front of the hotel. After sailing off into the deep blue ocean, the service will begin to pamper you.
Limitless drinks, fruit, fresh fruit juice, snacks and beers are included. Snorkeling is included also.
The crew will help you jump into the water, where a wonderful world of tropical coral fish awaits.
Other wildlife species you might encounter include turtles, humpback whales, fish, dolphins and birds are quite common.
Once snorkeling is done, a stop is included at a wonderful secluded beach, where you will have enough time to enjoy the sand, the tropical nature and the silence surrounding you.
Snorkeling, and in case of some boats ( stand up addling and kayaks are also included in the tour ).
After enjoying the delicious lunch on the beach, you will head back to the hotel and arrive at around 6 PM.
